Presidents Column

Gold in Illinois is not in great abundance. So, if you are wondering if you can strike it rich in Illinois by gold prospecting, the answer would have to be, probably not. We are in the process of obtaining some important geological information that is going to make it easier for us to prospect and find a little more gold.  By doing some research we are hopefully planning to open up some more outing sites for our members. The officers are diligently pursuing this option.

We are also planning a number of outings throughout the year, so please keep checking the events page on a regular basis. We will also be having a couple of joint outings with the other Illinois chapters.

I am also working on this site, so please bear with me. I apologize for not getting to this sooner, but a great lack of time to do so has been my biggest detriment.

I can be contacted via e-mail: benpah@gmail.com. If you are a GPAA member other info on my contact can be found in the magazine. Thank-You for visiting our sight.    Ben..President-Illinois Gold Seekers.

I have received various calls asking about claims in Illinois. I  must remind everyone that the mining laws of 1862 do not cover lands to the east of the Mississippi river. Illinois has strict laws concerning mining due to the coal industry that was once prevalent in the state. As gold prospectors go, we fall into a grey area.

2017 is looking to be a very busy year for Illinois Gold Seekers and hope that you can be a part of it. We would like to see as many as possible at our meetings and outings.
